GHSS Valayam was established in 1957 with the sole motive of imparting quality education to the common children of Valayam and adjacent areas. The then Nadapuram MLA Sri C.H Kanaran was the pioneer in the establishment of this reputed institution, which was started functioning at Cherumoth Mappila Elementary School. Gradually the school has acquired its own building and was shifted to the heart of Valayam Town.

Plus Two section was started in 1990-1991 and there are two science batches and two Humanities batches. The Humanities batches of this school comprise Journalism, Communicative English, Computer Application and Geography which are much sought after in this era of cut-throat competition. Students from distant areas come to this prestigious institution to widen their horizon of knowledge.

The school is gifted with a constructive PTA, diligent Teachers and dedicative Alumni Association which work round the clock for the betterment of the physical as well as academic improvement of this seat of knowledge. The examination results of this school has been showing an upward trend every year which stands at 90% now. It is sure that the results will reach at 100% in the near future for which we appeal the science co-operation all and sundry.
